A washing machine's water inlet valve regulates the amount of water that enters the machine at various points in the wash cycle. The valve is normally connected to the water supply for the home, and the electronic control board or timer for the washer regulates when it opens and closes. 

The input valve closes to stop any additional water flow once the water level reaches the specified level and begins the washing or rinsing operation.

How do you know if your washing machine’s water inlet valve is broken?

One indication is a complete lack of water flow into the machine during the wash cycle, even when the water supply is turned on. Another symptom is a slow or insufficient water supply, where the machine doesn't receive an adequate amount of water to properly fill the tub. 

A malfunctioning inlet valve may also cause leakage or dripping from the valve itself.
