Bosch Dishwasher Drain Pump

The drain pump forces dirty water out of your Bosch dishwasher through the drain hose during the drain cycle. If yours has failed, you may see E23, E24 or E25 error codes, find water left in the tub at the end of a cycle, hear a loud humming or grinding noise from the base of the machine, or notice the motor doesn't activate at all.

1. Remove the Cabinet Door (Integrated Models)

If your Bosch dishwasher is integrated into a kitchen unit, the cabinet door needs to come off first. On this model the door is held on by four T20 Torx screws at the top — the rounded ones, not the flat screws that hold the control panel and outer front door panel in place. Undo the four rounded screws and lift the cabinet door away from the dishwasher.

2. Remove the Kick Plate and Insulation

Pop a pair of work gloves on and undo the two Torx T20 screws that hold the kick plate (also called the access panel) at the base of the dishwasher. Use a flat-head screwdriver or blunt knife to lift the kick plate away.

If your dishwasher has a floor time light, unclip its electrical connector before setting the kick plate aside. Then lift out the foam insulation panel behind the kick plate to expose the drain pump.

3. Remove the Old Drain Pump

Move any wiring out of the way to get clear access to the drain pump. A plastic mounting tab on the pump stops it from being rotated — press this tab down with a flat-head screwdriver, then begin to rotate the drain pump clockwise to release it from the sump housing. It can be stiff, so take your time.

Once the pump is out, unclip the electrical wire connector from the back of it.

4. Unpackage the New Drain Pump

Unpackage your new Bosch drain pump and have a look at the locking tabs and plastic clip on the side of the housing — these slide into and latch onto matching slots inside the sump housing when the pump is fitted.

Attach the electrical wire connector to the new drain pump before installing it.

5. Fit the New Drain Pump

Insert the new drain pump into the opening in the sump housing. Align the mounting tabs on the pump with the locking slots in the sump housing, then press down to make sure the seal is tight and rotate the pump anticlockwise. You'll know it's in place when the tabs engage and lock firmly.

Clip the wires back to the drain pump body so they sit out of the way.

6. Refit the Kick Plate and Cabinet Door

If the control module has moved while you were working, put it back in place. Slide the insulation panel back into the base of the dishwasher, keeping the floor time light wire accessible if your machine has one, then reconnect the light's electrical connector.

Refit the kick plate and secure it with the two Torx T20 screws. If you removed the cabinet door at the start, line it back up with the fixing brackets at the bottom of the dishwasher — thread one screw in loosely to hold it in place, then tighten the rest.

And that's it — your new Bosch dishwasher drain pump is fitted and the E23, E24 or E25 error code should be cleared. Need more Bosch dishwasher spare parts?
