This fault can be disastrous and requires immediate attention. If you are lucky you will catch it early; you will come to load your washing machine with clothes and notice that the drum has water in it. The problem will lie with the washing machine inlet valve, and you should replace it ASAP.
While waiting for the replacement part ensure that you turn the taps off when the washing machine is not in use.
