1. Remove the Washing Machine Lid

Start by making sure your washing machine is fully turned off at the wall. Remove the two screws at the back of the machine, one on each side of the lid, then lift the lid off and set it aside.

2. Remove the Outer Clamping Band Ring Spring

Locate the front outer clamping band, the spring that holds the front of the door seal in place against the machine. Use your small flat-head screwdriver to hook under the band and gently lift it away from the door seal.

3. Access and Remove the Old Retaining Spring

With the outer band off, peel the front edge of the door seal away from the front panel and fold it inwards into the drum. This gives you access to the inner retaining spring without having to fully remove the door seal.

Hook your flat-head screwdriver into the end of the old retaining spring, pull the spring away from the seal, and gently work the band out.

4. Fit the New Door Seal Ring Retaining Spring

Position the new retaining spring band so the spring itself sits at the one or two o'clock position when you look at the front of the machine — this makes it easier to pull the spring through from the top.

Attach the band to the left side of the door seal first, then feed it all the way around to the spring side. Take your time, as the spring is tight to get fully seated. If any part of the band isn't sitting flush against the seal, gently push it into place.

5. Refit the Outer Clamping Band Ring Spring

Peel the door seal back out over the front panel and fit the groove in the seal over the lip of the washing machine opening. A little washing-up liquid on the seal makes this easier. Once the seal is sitting correctly, fit the outer clamping band ring spring back around the front of the seal.

6. Refit the Washing Machine Lid

Lower the lid back into place on top of the machine and refit the two screws at the back, one on each side. Your new door seal retaining spring is now fitted and the machine is ready to use.

And that's it — your new Hotpoint washing machine door seal retaining spring is fitted without having to fully remove the door seal. Need more Hotpoint washing machine spare parts?
