1. Where to find transit/transport bolts

Before using a new washing machine, double check all the transit bolts have been removed. The transport fixing bolts are located on the rear of the machine.

You can also check by moving the drum—if it doesn’t move freely, the bolts are likely still in place; if it does move freely, they’ve likely been removed, but always double check the rear.

2. How to remove transit/transport bolts

We’ll demonstrate removing the top fixing bolt on this Hotpoint model. It can simply be started off with a 10mm socket and then finished off unscrewing the rest by hand. It’s a good idea to keep these safe, in case you need to transport your machine elsewhere via a vehicle.

3. How to install transit/transport bolts

To install a fixing bolt for when transporting the machine, make sure it’s pieced together as shown here.

Locate the hole, insert your fixing bolt and begin to screw it in by hand.

Then, finish off and tighten with your 10mm socket.

This view shows the fixing bolt being installed with the lid removed. You may find this easier if you’re struggling to line up the bolt with the hole on the washing machine drum.
