The drain pump and filter in a washing machine work together to remove water and debris. The drain pump expels water from the drum using suction to guide it through the drain hose and out of the machine. Meanwhile, the filter captures lint and small items to prevent blockages in the pump and hose. 

What compromises the drain pump filter?

The accumulation of lint and debris clog the filter over time. If the filter is not regularly cleaned or maintained, it becomes obstructed and leads to poor water drainage and washing machine performance. 

The filter itself becomes damaged or worn out and results in gaps or tears in the mesh. This can allow larger debris to bypass the filter and cause blockages further downstream in the drain system.
