How does a heater element regulate temperature in tumble dryers?
Heater elements in tumble dryers generate heat that dries the clothes. They regulate the temperature through a combination of electrical resistance and a thermostat.
When the tumble dryer is turned on, electrical current flows through the heater element, which is typically made of a high-resistance wire. As the current passes through the wire, it encounters resistance, converting electrical energy into heat energy. This heat is then transferred to the surrounding air, which dries the clothes.
When do they need to get replaced?
Degrading over time due to heating and cooling cycles, mechanical stress, or mineral deposits from hard water, this is when heater elements may exhibit signs that they need replacement.
These signs include inadequate heating, longer drying times, insufficient heat production, the presence of cold spots on the drum or clothes, visibly burnt or damaged elements (such as burn marks, breaks, or corrosion), and a faulty thermostat that hampers temperature regulation, potentially causing overheating and requiring replacement.

Tricky to fit when it ought to be simple.
The replacement heater arrived promptly from Ransom. It comes complete with the two thermostats and wiring. It should be easy to fit- remove the back cover off the drier and the heater is held on with just two screws. The difficult part is connecting the cable. It’s easy to remove the clip which holds the cable onto the inside of the machine and then pull the cable through to disconnect the old heater and connect the new one. The problem is clipping the cable back on to the inside of the machine. The proper way to do this apparently requires removal of the top, control panel, door, door seal, front panel of machine, then remove the fan and fan cover, all so you can get your hand to the back of the machine to push the cable retaining clip back in. I didn’t want to do all that so I kept on trying to do it by putting my finger through the cable hole and feeling around to line up the cable clip and push it into place. After numerous painful attempts I got lucky and it clipped into place. I suspect that not everyone would have their finger nimble enough and strong enough to achieve this. So be warned! Heaven knows who designs an appliance like this. Excellent service as usual though from Ransom.

The real deal
I had the E21 error code on my Hoover tumble dryer and seen on the internet that this was the problem, ordered with next day delivery and the part came, the part itself is easy to install, the fact you have to take the front and back of the tumble dryer not so much, all in all it took about an hour from start to finish. Very pleased overall and the tumble dyrer now works like new, problem solved.

Replacement part
I ordered this as my tumble dryer was showing an E21 fault and looking on the web this is what people were saying was wrong. The part was due to be delivered in 3 days however it was out of stock. The company emailed me to inform me of the delay and advised when it would be in stock. They delivered the part as per order. Part fitted, job done and fault gone 👏

Super easy fit
Was really worried that this would be a complicated part to change out for a lay person. Turns out that it actually took 1 minute 30 to fit it. *Warning* please be aware that often does not come with a thermostatic cut off switch. Doesn't impair the use of the part but does add to the potential risk factors. I didn't check so that's on me. Guess I'm buying the thermostatic cut off switch
