Lint, tiny fibres, and other particles that might be present in the washing water are caught and collected by the drain pump filter. During the wash cycle, the water drains from the machine and passes through this filter.

The filter successfully captures and holds on to lint and dirt while still allowing water to pass through.

What compromises the drain pump filter?

The accumulation of lint and debris clog the filter over time. If the filter is not regularly cleaned or maintained, it becomes obstructed and leads to poor water drainage and washing machine performance. 

The filter itself becomes damaged or worn out and results in gaps or tears in the mesh. This can allow larger debris to bypass the filter and cause blockages further downstream in the drain system.
