How does a detergent syphon tube operate?

A detergent syphon tube uses suction and gravity to introduce detergent into water during a washing cycle. The tube is connected to a detergent reservoir and positioned with its open end submerged in the water. 

As water fills the tube, a vacuum is created, drawing the detergent up and mixing it with the water. 

Why does it get clogged or faulty?

Over time, mineral deposits and detergent residue accumulate. If the dispenser is not consistently cleaned, these deposits reduce the water flow and make the detergent ineffective. 

Clogs can also be created by using excessive amounts of detergent or by utilising concentrated, thick solutions that are not intended for dispensers. Mechanical flaws like a damaged syphon mechanism or a dispenser valve can also contribute to dispensing issues.
