The drain pump captures and collects any lint, tiny fibres, and other particles that may be in the washing water. The water drains from the washer and goes through this pump during the wash cycle.

What compromises the drain pump?

The accumulation of lint and debris clog the pump over time. If the pump is not regularly cleaned or maintained, it becomes obstructed and leads to poor water drainage and washing machine performance. 

It also becomes damaged or worn out and results in gaps or tears in the mesh. This can allow larger debris to bypass the pump and cause blockages further downstream in the drain system.
