Justwhat was needed
The spring is fine. Fitting is a bit tricky as it is necessary to lift the drum with its concrete weight about 9 inches. I used a small 6:1 pulley system and then a block of wood to hold it whilst I fitted the spring. It turned out to be easier than I expected, using this technique.

The part was exactly as required. Ease of fitting was not really relevant as the difficulty was a function of the machine design. Now very pleased with repaired machine.
