The interlock keeps you safe from the door accidentally opening and the machine's moving parts and hot water during the wash cycle.
A damaged or worn-out interlock causes your washing machine's door to fail to latch shut or lock firmly. It can cause leaks during the wash cycle.
If the machine won't start or abruptly stops mid-cycle, the door interlock being damaged can be one of the reasons.

Surprisingly easy to fit
It took me ages to diagnose the problem as information on the internet is sparse, inaccurate and often contradictory, but once I had decided on the balance of probability to change the interlock, this was a reasonable price from a reputable seller. There are no cheap parts so I cant say it was good value for what it is, but I couldnt get one much cheaper. I also wouldn't go to some random e-cove auction site seller (this review wont let me write the name, even though I'm stating Ransom is a better choice) and not have a clue what was actually going to be delivered; its worth a couple of quid for some credibility. Fitting was a breeze - removed the spring around the door seal with a screwdriver as a lever, popped the door seal off, pushed the two locking pins with a small screwdriver to pop the old one out, unplugged it and its out. Fitting was just as simple in reverse (but getting the door seal back on was a bit fiddlier - easy enough once I got the first bit on, and with the Mrs holding one bit whilst I completed the circle - anyone who has changed a bicycle tyre will know what thats like). I was expecting to have to half dismantle the machine, but it was done and tested in 10 minutes! It took me longer to get the machine out and disconnect everything to move it somewhere to test - could've left it in place. Saved buying a new machine, so very happy.
