What do carbon brushes do in a washing machine?
Carbon brushes are small blocks made of carbon and attached to the motor, making contact with the spinning armature.
As the motor rotates, the carbon brushes give the necessary electrical connection and allow power to be transmitted to various motor components, such as the drum or pump. The brushes also help regulate the electrical current and control the motor's speed and operation.
Why do you replace them?
Carbon brushes need to be replaced when they wear down or become too short. The constant friction and contact with the spinning armature cause the carbon brushes to gradually wear out.
As the brushes wear down, they lose their optimal conductivity and may not make sufficient contact with the armature, leading to reduced motor performance, intermittent operation, or even motor failure.

Great product...a little fiddly to fit
Fitted to a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express - Most of the time is taken to take part everything to get to the brushes. They're then a little bit fiddly to load the spring but plenty of online videos available. Probably a 30 min job in total

Impressive Service
Ordered the carbon brushes on Friday afternoon and delivered Saturday morning. Needed to use emery paper on the corners of the brushes to ensure a sliding fit. Took 5 minutes and machine in full working order. Gained a few brownie points with the wife.

Did Exactly What I Hoped
I was not 100% sure that the brushes had failed in the washing machine motor until I put the new brushes in. However, the new brushes restored the machine to its former glory - very happy with the result. There was a small glitch with the delivery as the next-day delivery didn't happen but Ransom's customer services were great and refunded the cost of this. Overall, very happy! Thanks!

Good price but OEM parts were better
Tried fitting these brushes based on Youtube videos. This involved really difficult access to the motor. I spent a lot of frustrating time using mirrors and torches to see what I was doing and managed to fit one but the other was impossible and eventually the contact came apart from the connecting wire. I then bought the more expensive OEM brushes and noticed the video instructions on Ransome's website. This was based on my specific model and recommended removing the motor. Not surprisingly, this makes the whole process a complete doddle. I strongly recommend removing the motor to fit the brushes and obviously can't say if these no-OEM brushes would have done the job just as well. Clearing the error code is also a mystery but follow the instructions on Youtube and it will eventually work (turn OFF, turn to 6 o'clock, press and keep pressing spin hold, turn to 7 o'clock for 5 secs and release, turn to OFF then on).
