Passes current to the spinning part of the motor so it can turn the drum.
Tick the symptoms your appliance is showing. We’ll tell you how confident we are this part is the fix.
Error codes are model dependent, so the same brand may have more than one listed.
| Code | Brand | What it means | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| F21 | Bosch | Means a motor-related fault that often stops the machine mid-cycle, prevents spinning, and may lock the door. It is usually caused by worn-out carbon brushes, a motor issue, or a control board glitch. | High |
| F4 | Bosch | Means a motor-related fault, with some models interpreting it as a drainage timeout. It is usually caused by worn carbon brushes, faulty motor wiring, or a malfunctioning control module. | High |
| F42 | Bosch | Means a motor-related fault where the motor is not communicating its speed properly or is running uncontrollably. It is usually caused by a motor tachometer error or worn-out motor carbon brushes. | High |
| F43 | Bosch | Means a motor or spin failure where the drum cannot turn, causing the cycle to fail and often leaving the door locked. It is usually caused by worn carbon brushes, an unbalanced load, or a faulty motor control module. | High |
| F63 | Bosch | Means a critical motor or control board failure, signalling a communication issue between the motor and the main electronics. It is usually caused by worn motor brushes or a faulty motor control module. | High |
| E42 | Siemens | Means there is a motor circuit fault and the motor is not running properly. It is usually caused by worn carbon brushes, a tacho connection failure, or a control module (PCB) issue. | High |
| E43 | Siemens | Means there is a motor circuit fault and the motor cannot turn or spin. It is usually caused by a seized motor, worn carbon brushes, or a drum blockage. | High |
| E44 | Siemens | Means there is a motor error in the motor circuit. It is usually caused by a fault in the motor circuit, the tacho generator, or heavily worn carbon brushes. | High |
| E60 | Siemens | Means the motor cannot turn the drum, particularly as E6009 or E60-09. It is usually caused by drive circuit faults such as a malfunctioning inverter or worn motor carbon brushes. | High |
| F48 | Siemens | Means the motor cannot turn, or the control board loses connection with the motor. It is usually caused by motor failure, electronic control module issues, or damaged wiring. | High |
| F7 | Siemens | Means there is a motor fault or a failure to reach the correct speed during a cycle, which often cuts out the spin, or on some models a door lock issue. It is usually caused by a motor fault, a pump that is not operating, or a door that is not locking. | High |
| F74 | Siemens | Means there is a problem within the motor circuit or a motor control communication failure. It is usually caused by a faulty control board, a faulty control panel, a worn component, or damaged wiring. | High |
| F9 | Siemens | Means the motor cannot reach the required speed or is not communicating with the control module, often because of a severe unbalanced load that prevented the drum from spinning. It is usually caused by a motor fault, a control board fault, or an unbalanced load. | High |

General fitting guidance. The exact steps can vary slightly with the make and model of your washing machine.
Safety: Switch off and unplug at the mains before you start.
Carbon brushes are small blocks made of carbon and attached to the motor, making contact with the spinning armature.
As the motor rotates, the carbon brushes give the necessary electrical connection and allow power to be transmitted to various motor components, such as the drum or pump. The brushes also help regulate the electrical current and control the motor's speed and operation.
Carbon brushes need to be replaced when they wear down or become too short. The constant friction and contact with the spinning armature cause the carbon brushes to gradually wear out.
As the brushes wear down, they lose their optimal conductivity and may not make sufficient contact with the armature, leading to reduced motor performance, intermittent operation, or even motor failure.
Check the instructions on the video below on how to replace carbon brushes on washing machines.
These parts fit Bosch, Balay, Constructa, De Dietrich, Gaggenau, Kuppersbusch, Lynx, Neff, Pitsos, Profilo, Siemens, Tecnik, and Viva washing machines.
The following DIY repair video should assist you in fitting this part. However the exact procedure may differ depending on your make and model.
Safety Warning - Always unplug from the mains before carrying out any repairs.
Does exactly what it says on the packet. Good compatibility and the washing machine now works as good as ever. All brushes are a bit tricky to replace and these are no exception, but no unexpected problems were encountered.
Best priced set of brushes for a Bosch washing machine. Easily fitted, so hopefully more years left in machine. Prompt and fast delivery.
Quality product. Great service, especially as I ordered between Christmas and New Year, came next day.
Fitted to a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express - Most of the time is taken to take part everything to get to the brushes. They're then a little bit fiddly to load the spring but plenty of online videos available. Probably a 30 min job in total
The part was perfect … cheap price , high quality and easy to fit due to the quality of the help Videos provided on ransoms YouTube channel . Thanks guys I have a working washing machine and change from a tenner
