Description
What does a drum shock absorber do for washing machines?
A drum shock absorber in a washing machine serves the purpose of reducing vibrations and stabilising the drum during the spin cycle. It absorbs the impact and movement generated by the rotating drum, minimising excessive shaking or bouncing of the machine.
This not only helps in preventing damage to the washing machine components but also ensures smoother and quieter operation.
How do I know if my washing machine’s shock absorber is bad?
If you notice increased vibrations or excessive noise during the spin cycle, it could be a sign of a faulty shock absorber. Once the washing machine displays unstable movement or wobbling during operation, it is likely that the shock absorber needs to be inspected too.

Drum absorber kit
Drum shock absorbers great product easy to replace.
Such an Easy Fix
Our Hotpoint Washing Machine Model WMEUF 944 had developed a “shake rattle and roll”. I guessed it was one (or both) shock absorbers. These are so easy to fit and has resolved the problem on the machine. Literally a ten minute job - once you have pulled the machine from it’s hiding place and got access to the rear and underside.
Great product, easy to fit
Good quality parts, quick delivery and very easy to fit, for the cheapest price found.
Brilliant and Easy to Fit
My mums Indesit washer / dryer (IWDD7123) had developed the shake rattle and roll. Was pretty sure it was the shock absorbers. Ransom Spares website so easy to use for getting a spare part match (genuine Indesit) to machine. The parts are so easy to fit - just bear in mind you will have to tilt machine on side to do so. Guess it took about an hour (bulk of time was getting machine in and out of its hiding place). A spanner and a pair of pliers (long nose preferable) and job done. Fitting parts took perhaps 15 - 20 mins. Has solved problem completely. A VERY easy fix. Local trades (Hertfordshire) were quoting around £90.00 plus parts. Initially I went on another prominent spares website who informed me these shock absorbers were no longer made and no alternative for this machine . I did subsequently inform them that on their own site they listed the genuine spares and had them in stock at twice the price of Ransom!! So basically if your machine has the shake rattle and roll - worth trying this. Parts delivery was swift and efficient. WHY go anywhere else than Ransom?
Easy Repair
My washing machine was jumping all over the place and was very noisy during the spin cycle. I was about to order a new machine when I read it might be worth replacing the drum shock absorbers. I sourced on Ransom spares for less than £15 delivered. It took about an hour tops to fit the new bits and the result was remarkable. I now have a quiet, stable washing machine. I also have a quiet wife and I saved myself hundreds of pounds.
Worth a try for the price.
The washing machine was getting slightly noisy and suspected the dampers, for the price of replacements it was worth changing. Very easy to change and the difference is amazing.
Worked a treat
My machine was bouncy & these shocks sorted the problem. Quite easy to fit from underneath. Might need a spare hand to move the drum while putting bolts back in.
Perfect, just what was needed.
Had just replaced my noisy washing machine drum with a complete new drum (because my machine has an integral drum bearing), but still a bit noisy. Discovered that one of the shock absorbers was far from right, so replaced both and now perfectly quiet again! Think the lesson here with a new drum is to replace the shock abosrbers at the same time. Maybe the faulty shock absorber caused the drum bearing to fail in the first place, don't know.
Straight forward fit
At first it was the bearings in the drum making a mighty racket. They had failed and so I ordered and replaced the drum in my Hotpoint machine. That was a four hour job. The new drum, however, did not alleviate the underlying problem that had cause the bearing failure in the first place. When all put back together it rocked and rolled around, with drum thumping the side of the machine. The Shock absobers had failed. Ordered a set for next day delivery, turned the machine onto its back and had them replaced in half an hour. Only requirement a 10mm spanner or socket and a pair of bullnose pliers. Silent running resumed.
Surprisingly easy to fit.
Tilted the washing machine most of the way over to access under the drum. 1 bolt out at one end, a quick spray from a kitchen spray (as basic lubricant) on the plastic peg combined with a small amount of elbow grease and the peg was easily removed with pliers. Couldn't see a problem with the old shockers after removing them but the new ones are vastly quieter. My washing machine is like new again for almost no cost. Thanks Ransom (Again).
