How does a tumble dryer belt work?

The tumble dryer belt connects the motor's pulley to the drum's pulley and enables the motor's rotational energy to be transferred to the drum. When the dryer is in operation, the motor spins, and the belt moves, causing the drum to rotate. 

This rotation tumbles the laundry inside, facilitating even drying by exposing the clothes to the heated air inside the dryer. 

How do you know if your dryer belt has gone bad?

A worn-out belt causes a loud thumping or rumbling sound when the dryer is running. Another indication is if the dryer's drum is hardly spinning or not spinning at all. 

Any burning smell or excessive heat coming from the dryer's drum could be due to a broken belt.
