General fitting guidance. The exact steps can vary slightly with the make and model of your tumble dryer.
Safety: Switch off and unplug at the mains and discharge the capacitor before you start.
When the motor in the tumble dryer is switched on, the capacitor discharges its stored energy, releasing a surge of power. This extra power helps overcome the initial resistance and inertia of the motor, enabling it to start spinning. Once the motor is running, the capacitor continues to provide a stable power supply, ensuring smooth operation.
Like any electronic component, a tumble dryer capacitor has a limited lifespan. Over time, it may experience natural wear and tear, leading to a decline in its performance and eventual failure.
Excessive heat generated within the dryer due to prolonged use, poor ventilation, or faulty components can cause the capacitor to overheat. High temperatures can degrade the dielectric material and lead to a loss of capacitance or even the breakdown of the capacitor.
Watch our video tutorial below on how to fit a tumble dryer capacitor.
This capacitor by Hotpoint is a genuine tumble dryer replacement part. It also fits Ariston, Creda, Indesit, and Swan tumble dryers.
Please note that the following video will give you a guide on how to fit this part, however the exact fitting may differ depending on your make and model.
Safety Warning - Always unplug from the mains before carrying out any repairs.

Hi, I need a capacitor for a Hotpoint TCHLBRPUK. One comes up as compatible but it only has 2 connections, the one on my machine has 4. Everywhere I’ve looked it’s the same, 2 pins instead of the 4 I need.
Hi Jacob, your existing capacitor will probably only connect with 2 wires, not 4 (leaving 2 terminals free), so you would only require a capacitor with 2 tags.
I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis the start capacitor is 416.33.B729 W27/13, is this capacitor compatible?
Hi William, I can confirm this capacitor is a suitable replacement for your existing one.
Hi I need capacitor for IDCE8450BSH (UK) it is a 8.5uf and has 4 pins for 4 wires yet on this site the capacitor has got 2 pins? I see this question has been asked already by someone and I'm having same problem locating the correct 4 pin capacitor
Hi Mohamed, the original capacitor has probably got piggy backed terminals (two spades going to the same point). You would only need to connect two wires to this.
Does this part have 4 pins on top ?
Hi Haydn, this has 2 pins on top.
