How does a tumble dryer capacitor work?
The capacitor releases its stored energy when the tumble dryer's motor is turned on, creating a rush of power. This additional power aids in getting the motor going by overcoming its initial resistance and inertia.
Once the motor has started, the capacitor keeps supplying a steady power source to ensure smooth performance.
What damages the capacitor?
A dryer capacitor has a finite lifespan, just like any other electronic component. It might endure normal wear and tear over time, which could cause a deterioration in function and lead to failure.
The capacitor may overheat due to excessive heat created inside the dryer from continuous use, inadequate ventilation, or defective parts. High temperatures can cause the dielectric material to deteriorate, which can cause the capacitor to break down or lose capacitance.

Cheap tumble dryer repair
Tumble dryer stopped working. Drum not rotating and buzzing from motor. Diagnosed by looking online as the motor capacitor. It is a Hoover condenser dryer and the designers clearly had no concept of designed mg for repair. Capacitor buried right at the back with no access to change apart from a complete dismantling of the machine. Fortunately saw a comment where someone had managed to change the capacitor with difficulty without total stripdown and followed his instructions which worked. Once changed them worked perfectly so a simple fixe was f it wasn’t for access.

Many thanks Ransomspares, there advice and supply of these Capacitors saved me around £600 as i was going to be purchasing a new tumble dryer. A throw away society goes against the grain with me. The tumble dryer had started being reluctant to start and after watching the video I concluded I needed a new capacitor. This arrived promptly, although I didn't fit it immediately as the dryer appeared to be working for a week or so, but then started misbehaving again. Thanks to the video I was able to get at the part, but whoever designed the machine in the first place obviously didn't have ease of replacing the capacitor at the top of their agenda, for you have to take a fair bit of the machine (Hotpoint) to bits to get at it. One video suggested taking the drum out as well to get at the capacitor, but I was reluctant do this and after a bit of fiddling about, guided by feel rather than sight, I was able to replace the part which had two spades rather than four, but the video indicated this was not a problem. Putting it all back together, the machine started perfectly and has continued to do so. So a cheap but rather fiddly repair, but accomplished thanks to the useful video.

Could you tell me if this capacitor is a genuine Ducati one as pictured, please? I'm struggling to find an exact match to the one for my Candy tumble dryer which is almost identical to the one you have pictures apart from on the side of the one you have pictures it's printed W06/18 and mine is W27/16. Not sure if this makes a difference or not? Thanks
