How does a heater element regulate temperature in tumble dryers?
Heater elements in tumble dryers generate heat that dries the clothes. They regulate the temperature through a combination of electrical resistance and a thermostat.
When the tumble dryer is turned on, electrical current flows through the heater element, which is typically made of a high-resistance wire. As the current passes through the wire, it encounters resistance, converting electrical energy into heat energy. This heat is then transferred to the surrounding air, which dries the clothes.
When do they need to get replaced?
Degrading over time due to heating and cooling cycles, mechanical stress, or mineral deposits from hard water, this is when heater elements may exhibit signs that they need replacement.
These signs include inadequate heating, longer drying times, insufficient heat production, the presence of cold spots on the drum or clothes, visibly burnt or damaged elements (such as burn marks, breaks, or corrosion), and a faulty thermostat that hampers temperature regulation, potentially causing overheating and requiring replacement.
