This is a genuine lock switch for your tumble dryer.
The lock switch keeps your tumble dryer closed during spinning cycles. A safety measure so you won’t get injured while drying your clothes.
It also acts as a control signal when the door is not securely closed. When it’s properly closed, it sends out a signal that it’s safe to start the cycle. And when it’s loose or still open, it senses the location of the door coupler or latch and alerts the dryer's control system to stop working.

Works a treat
Not the easiest of replacements but straightforward enough: Take off top Take off control panel Undo screws on the front so that you can pull away the front where the catch is undo screw holding catch pull catch out of gap take off cables The catch actually has two orientations depending on which side your door is swung, therefore, like me, you may need to take out the little microswitch where the electric hooks up and move it to match the one you just took off. Fiddly but easy enough. Reverse the above and test. Happy days.

Candy / Hoover tumble dryer door interlock switch
The original switch had failed due to overheating. It was charred and partially melted. The replacement was easy to locate on the Ransome Spares website and it arrived promptly. At £8.85 it was good value for money I thought. The Candy / Hoover dryer is reasonably easy to dissasemble once you know how it comes apart. Once the front panel has been removed replacing the switch is easy.
