What is the function of a baseplate drive assembly in lawnmowers?
The baseplate drive assembly transmits power from the engine to the cutting blades so they can rotate and effectively trim the grass. It has a series of interconnected components, including a drive belt, pulleys, and a blade spindle assembly.
The engine generates power which is transferred through the baseplate drive assembly and converts and distributes it to the cutting blades for spinning and cutting.
Why do you replace it?
Continuous usage and exposure to various elements can cause wear and tear on the components of the assembly. The drive belt may become stretched or worn out, resulting in reduced power transfer and ineffective blade rotation.
Damaged or malfunctioning pulleys or blade spindle assembly cause inefficient operation or complete failure of the cutting mechanism. If any components are severely damaged or broken, replace the entire baseplate drive assembly.

Part was spot on for my lawnmower

Flymo Centrifugal Baseplate
Just what I needed to replace a ball bearing that had fallen apart. The screws holding the plate to the plastic body had rusted so it was hard to dismantle, but I used new stainless steel screws to put it back together. Easy to fit, mover working fine. I sharpened the blade when it was all apart.

Flymo part easy to fit.
Had to change the drive assembly as the bearing failed. The part in my flymo did not have the internal brake on the drive assembly so spun freely although the website said it was compatible with my mowers product number. My mower had the brake on the motor shaft. I assume a modification to overcome slipping belts. So decided to fit it as the motor seemed ok for the small extra start up load and the grass was getting long. Flymo now performs well, no excessive vibration. Part arrived quickly.

Works brilliantly, Flymo works like new. Online 'How to do' vids were a godsend. Unfortunately, it took 5 times longer to remove one recessed rusted & broken old screw than it took to do the complete job.

Genuine part, good quality
The mower had become very noisy, and vibrated badly, the reason being that the bearings on the main shaft had worn and were loose. You can't replace the bearings, you have to buy this complete baseplate assembly. The part supplied is genuine Flymo, so no compatibility problems. It's a bit tedious to fit - remove the blade and fan, then top cover, then remove the baseplate which comes out complete with motor. Take the motor off the baseplate together with the drive belt, and reassemble everything again with the new baseplate. Hint: the drive belt needs to be insanely tight otherwise it slips. The only adjustment is the motor securing screws and you need some leverage to get enough tension while tightening the screws.
