This is a genuine whirlpool dishwasher threaded cap replacement part. A dishwasher threaded cap is often used to seal up different sections within your dishwasher, allowing water to flow through effectively. The cap works to prevent leaks and encourage water to flow through. The cap has a 52mm diameter. The cap is durable which is designed to deal well with moisture, heat and chemicals found in dishwashers. A threaded cap’s other main features include a water tight seal, easy installation and preventing contamination.
There are many reasons why your threaded cap might become faulty or damaged. Some reasons include, over tightening, extreme heat, detergents and cleaning agents, physical impact and the age of your dishwasher. Over tightening your cap can put stress on it which can make it difficult to secure the cap in place. Over time, constant heat, moisture and detergents from your washing machine can weaken the cap, causing the rubber to degrade and lose it's form. This can cause leaking if the rubber loses its shape.
You should get a replacement when you start to notice the following signs such as, deformation or cracking, loss of flexibility and water leaks. If the cap starts to show signs of cracks or deformation, then this can be sign you will need to get a replacement. Damages on the cap can lead to water leaks as the cap can no longer seal as effectively. If the rubber from your cap becomes stiff or hard then this can cause more damages and leaks as water will be able to easily escape.
The cap was relatively easy to find on the website and the spec provided enough info to order with confidence. The part took the predicted time to arrive, and on arrival was as detailed and expected. It's a very east part to fit too, so all good. Tip: If this cap fails, you can actually superglue it back together temporarily and continue to use the dishwasher. I didn't think it would work, but it actually worked a treat. I also used Silicon sealer to ensure it did not fall out in the meantime. Note that if you use the dishwasher without a cap in place, water will splash out and accumulate in the splash tray under the dishwasher. The overflow alarm will then beep continuously and the LEDs will flash until the water is removed.
