Balances the door so it lowers slowly and stays open where you leave it.

General fitting guidance. The exact steps can vary slightly with the make and model of your dishwasher.
Safety: Switch off and unplug at the mains before you start.
This is a genuine spring for your dishwasher door.
Stretchy coil on each side of the door, connecting it to the dishwasher. When your dishes are getting cleaned, the spring keeps the door closed and makes sure it shuts properly.
The spring should be replaced when you experience difficulty in opening or closing the dishwasher door, the door is not staying closed properly, or the door slams shut unexpectedly.
This spring for your dishwasher door is from Siemens. You can also check the other suitable brands from the list above.

I took a punt on getting these springs as apparently they are not for my model of dishwasher (both Bosch and Ransom had said springs for my model had been discontinued and were not available). These were however identical in appearance (as was another slightly less expensive option). Opted for these as my dishwasher is 'Built Under' Type and possibly needed slightly stronger springs to counterbalance added door. Only one spring had broken but bought two 'just in case'. Have replaced the broken part and all was straightforward and (importantly) seems to work fine. Slightly odd that Bosch say discontinued and no alternative (other than buy another dishwasher...?). Putting it side by side with the broken part I could not see any difference though I could not check actual spring strength (but wire thickness etc identical).
Once the side panel has been removed and the old springs have been located, it just a matter of sliding out the original spring and holder unit, detaching the pulley cord and reattaching the cord to the new replacement spring holder then sliding it back into place. Both sides can be done as long as the Dishwasher is lying on it's side. Door works like new and stays up in any position.
