It's made of plastic and has holes to let the water spray directly onto your dishes or cutlery.

This water spray arm whirls and the nozzles release jet water onto your plates and cutlery during the washing up cycle. It sprays water from the top in pressurised jets to get rid of food bits and other gunk stuck on your dirty dishes. 

This high pressure makes sure your dishes are thoroughly cleaned, no dirt sticking to it once it's out of the dishwasher.
