How do rail end caps work for your dishwasher?

Rail end caps for dishwashers are small plastic or rubber pieces that cover the ends of the dishwasher's sliding rails which support the dish racks. They prevent the racks from falling off the rails and protect them from damage.

Why do you change them?

The constant movement of the dish racks and the pressure they exert on the end caps wear them down or cause cracking over time. Damaged end caps may not securely hold the racks in place and lead to instability and potential damage to the dishwasher or dishes. 

Accidental impacts or mishandling of the dish racks can also cause the end caps to break and damage the dishware.
