What does a thermocouple do in an oven?
Your oven's thermocouple's job is to stop gas leaks by shutting the gas valve when it detects that the pilot light has been extinguished. Highly flammable gas will start to build up if this component isn't functioning properly and endanger your health and safety.
How does a thermocouple go bad?
Exposing a thermocouple to temperatures beyond its intended operating range or subjecting it to higher temperatures than necessary during processing can cause damage to its elements. This can result in accelerated wear and a shorter lifespan for the thermocouple, impacting its performance and longevity.
A functioning thermocouple will measure between 25 and 30 millimetres. It should be replaced if the reading is less than 25 millimetres.
