How does an oven bulb help in your cooking?

When the door is opened or the oven door is lit by the bulb, you can see through the glass and check on the food as it bakes or cooks. 

It functions much like a regular incandescent bulb. When the oven light is turned on, an electrical current travels through a filament within the lightbulb, heating it and causing it to emit light.

Why do you remove the bulb in the oven? 

The filament within the oven light bulb deteriorates or shatters under the extreme heat and vibrations of regular oven use. The oven's intense heat can degrade components, diminish brightness, or even trigger catastrophic failure. 

If your cooking light bulb has dimmed, replace it.
