This is the coupler that takes the steam from the tank in the coffee machine to the brewing unit. Because it sticks out its designed to be replaceable. Only took seconds to fit, but had to break the original into pieces to work out how it slid into place. When you hold the replacement its obvious but when attached to the machine its a puzzle.
