How to replace a Dishwasher Drain Pump

Video transcript:

Hi I’m Lee from ransom spares.  If your dishwasher has stopped emptying, and you have checked and there are no blockages then it’s likely to be the drain pump that needs replacing.  I’m going to demonstrate how to fit the pump on this Hotpoint dishwasher however the procedure should be very similar no matter what make or model you have.

First of all before we start, always remember to remove the plug from the socket before carrying out any repairs.

The drain pump on a dishwasher will always be located at the bottom of the machine so the first thing we need to do is get access to the underside by turning the dishwasher on it’s back.  Before you do this make sure that you’ve emptied the dishwasher of any water and it’s always a good idea to lay it back on to a couple of towels to protect it.

As you can see this dishwasher has a base cover which is held in place by two clips and needs removing.  The pump will have the drain hose connected to it so simply follow the drain hose and this will lead you to the pump.

This pump is held in place with a bayonet fixing.  We just need to depress this clip and twist the pump anti clockwise to release it.  Remove the wire block connector and replace the faulty pump with a new one.

So that’s how to replace the drain pump in a dishwasher.  Drain pumps and all other dishwasher spares can be found on ransomspares.co.uk ….. thanks for watching.
