Dishwasher Door Seals - Advice & Fitting Video

Last Updated: 27 Jan 2016

There are usually 2 door seals on a dishwasher; a lower seal, and an upper seal.  Any perishing or damage to the door seal will cause your dishwasher to leak which can only be repaired by replacing the faulty seal.  The most common seal to need replacing is the lower seal that creates the water tight seal between the lower door and the dishwasher.  The upper seal is likely to need replacing as this isn't in constant contact with water during the wash cycle.  Other faults and problems can cause your dishwasher to leak; for further details see our guide 'my dishwasher is leaking'.

How to replace the lower door seal on a dishwasher

Video transcript:

Hi I'm Shawn from Ransom Spares and today I'll show you how to replace the lower door seal on this Bosch dishwasher.  Before we start please make sure that you've isolated the appliance from the mains.

Now, to gain access to lower door seal I'm first going to remove the lid.  The lid is held on by 2 screws at the front, 2 screws at the rear, and 2 clips, here and here.

Next I'm going to remove both side panels.  Each panel is held in place with 2 screws at the front and 1 at the rear.

Now we have to remove the door hinge spring.  To do that I'm going to close the door to release the tension on it.

Next we're going to remove the door front panel.  Be careful when opening the door with both the hinge springs removed.  The door front panel is held on by 3 screws down each side.

Now you can see the lower dishwasher seal and it is held in place between the door and the hinge here.  The next thing we need to do is remove the door from the hinges by removing both the hinge screws.

Now just remove the lower basket and take the old seal off.  As you can see this lower door seal is very distorted.

Before we fit the new door seal we need to give the lip where the seal fits a good clean.

Once the new door seal has been fit we can then replace the door, door panel, dishwasher sides and the lid.

And there you go, that's how to replace the lower door seal on a dishwasher.  Door seals and all other replacement dishwasher parts can be found on the Ransom Spares website.  Thanks for watching!

How to replace the upper door seal on a dishwasher

Video transcript:

Hi my name is Shawn and today I'm going to show you how to change the 3 sided upper door seal on a dishwasher.  First of all please make sure that you isolate the dishwasher from the mains before you start.

Now as I open the door you can see the door seal, it has 3 sides and shaped like a goal post and goes along the top and down each side.

The first thing I'll do is remove the lower basket.

The seal is pressed in place so I'm going to start at the bottom corner with a flat screwdriver and ease out the old seal.

Now I can pull the seal out of the channel all the way round.

Before pressing in place the new door seal you will need to give the channel a good clean.

That's how to replace the upper door seal on a dishwasher.  Remember door seals and all other dishwasher spares can be found on the Ransom Spares website.  Thanks for watching.
